Mother Africa – 2009 –

Saludo de la embajada de España en Corea

The Embassy of Spain in Korea takes pleasure in greeting the first exhibition of Madrid-born artist Irene López de Castro (b. 1967) in Bandi Gallery, which one again brings Hispanic art closer to the Korean public.

Under the title Mother Africa, the exhibition displays recent works originated in Irene López de Castro’s voyages to the Sahelian region in Africa, especially to Mali. Her paintings masterly capture and project the fury and texture of African light, and the motives chosen (fluvial and urban landscapes, family portraits) exhale an intense love for that continent and its people.

The work of artist-travellers like Irene López de Castro is helping Spain rediscover Africa and raise awareness towards its problems but also its riveting beauty. Thanks to this exhibition, our friends will enjoy an opportunity to glance into a fascinating land accompanied by a woman passionate about it.
